We thank Mary Portas for her support of independent shops,she's so right about the challenges we face!

Launch of Nursery Tales collection with Jane Churchill

It's all go in the Dragons of Walton Street showroom today as we launch our fabulous new nursery collection in collaboration with Jane Churchill.
This really is a big event for us as the collection is the culmination of two years' work and goes to more than 70 countries around the world. No wonder we're so excited!
The wallpaper and fabrics encompass the true essence of childhood fantasy with our dear friends Paddington Bear, Thomas the Tank Engine and the Flower Fairies dominating the look.
One of the highlights of working on the collection was hosting the chief artist from Winnie the Pooh who tutored one of our senior artists on how to paint as true to the iconic EH Shephard as possible.

Sourced by Guy and Caroline Bodger, the range include duvets, pillows and play mats which are made from Ellis Fibre's Supawool©. This process is unique in creating some of the warmest and lightest and cleanest duvets in the world. The wool used in these bedding products is sourced from only the best quality New Zealand merino and corridale wools.

It is a contemporary, fresh design which we believe is well targeted to the UK market. Also featured is a Dragons Standard Toy Box hand painted with a linen toile Beatrix Potter design and trimmed to match the rest of the set.

Designer Chandelier

In our showroom window we have a beautiful young designer's lighting feature which is hand made. The chandelier is hand sculpted from Japanese paper and
is designed to reflect movement of a shoal of fish. It lends a contemporary feel to the pieces we have coupled it with. The oval cot with a natural wood finish contrasts beautifully against the more contemporay micro-sueded upholstered nursing chair. This nursing chair has proved popular as it holds it own in any room and need not be confined just to the nursery. The cream rug has suede edging and the centre is hypo allergenic polymide so is perfect for children with allergies.This new concept which combines the contemporary with the classic, has had a fantastic response!

The core of this mattress is made from Graphite latex which is 300% more resilient to dust mites due to its ability to keep moisture locked out and therefore the breeding of bed bugs etc cannot occur. Last week, the Dragons team showed extraordinary commitment to a recent Royal VIP member of an Arab family who came to us having been let down by one of their other contractors. Dragons had previously supplied a bespoke mural, curtains and other hand made pieces to this client and had been complemented on the quality, speed and efficiency of the installation - and so in a time of crises we were thrilled to be able to help. They asked us if we could upholster a chair and make and install 2 vast pairs of curtains for their London home in one week over the Easter holiday! Not an easy brief. The curtains were exquisite - lavish, lined and inter-lined and made of a beautiful fabric and long! Dragons’ Design Director Adam Dale, who also project managed the installation commented that it was “brilliantly executed and showed how wonderfully personal and professional the Dragons Service is.”

We are very proud that we can turn out bespoke projects very quickly if needed and we are very proud of our team.

We are very excited to announce a new Dragons stockist in the Ukraine who have recently ordered three beautiful room sets due to be delivered at the end of May 2011. Our new clients trekked accross London in the snow during the February snow-in and hand picked furniture for their flagship showroom, including a 4 poster cot, chest of drawers, changer, an Oliver Bed (the perfect 1st stage bed when moving from a cot to a first bed), and a classical 4 poster bed. The Kiev based Showroom owned by the Helen Marlen Group will be selling nursery and children's hand painted furniture and with Dragons's assistance will be able to offer clients in the region a fully bespoke children's interior design service.

Royal Romance

Dear All,
We are on the eve of one of the most romantic days and I do hope you are all able to join in...... who can remember where they were on Princess Diana's wedding day? I know my mother closed the curtains in our playroom and insisted we watch this huge event, and even though we sneaked through the curtains into the garden at times, I remember it vividly! I know I can't wait to watch the pageantry and majesty, who can resist a 'commoner' arriving at the Abbey and leaving a Princess, it is the stuff little girls dreams are made of, you throw in a beautiful carriage and a Royal kiss on the Buckingham Palace balcony at 1.25pm exactly and which girl will not be watching!!!! Our Four-poster bed draped in beautiful Flower Fairy fabric would not be a bad place for her to spend her last night as a single girl,to complete the fairytale picture, let's hope she has sweet dreams and we wish them all the best.

Easter Egg Workshop

Hi All
We had a fantastic Easter Egg Workshop and we had 18 children with three children visiting from Qatar, who loved being able to do such an English activity!
Can you get anymore English than making a Easter Bonnet, you will see the pictures!?
It was great fun, as after their bonnets there were photographs taken of each child for them to keep and put in the frames they were making, they looked lovely when they were finished!
As if that wasn't enough they then decorated cookies and went home with party bags and a happy memory.
Thank you Sousette for hosting such a lovely party!

New Floor in the showroom

Hi All
Just wanted to put a note to everyone to say we are having a beautiful new floor for the showroom and generally refurbing our flagship showroom.
We will end up with a reclaimed wood beach floor and an exquisite hand-painted floor in part of the shop.
Please bare with us while we don't look our best and we will need to close the shop on;

It's easy, baby! Transform a corner of your home into a nursery for the new arrival

Motherhood is paved with good intentions. Before the baby arrives you go to extraordinary lengths preparing everything in orderly fashion — the cot, chest of drawers, pictures on the walls, chiming toys.

But the reality is different. Within weeks of the baby having arrived, the house looks as if it's been rattled by a cyclone and the mother's nerves are fraying at the edges.

One solution, of course, is move to a house that's big enough to have a dedicated nursery where you can close the door at night and, miraculously, the place is pristine in the morning.

Cute and stylish: It is possible to have a beautiful nursery grown ups will love too

However, if you have limited space, there are some simple ways in which you can create an attractive and practical environment for a newborn baby.

According to Sharon Lillywhite, of interior design company Oliver Burns Interiors, oliverburnsinteriors.com, Mary Poppin's-style nurseries, using vintage pieces such as patchwork quilts and dolls houses are the fashionable choice.

SAMANTHA Cameron may have been unprepared for a surprise, early birth in Cornwall, but she left nothing to chance when it came to her new daughter's nursery.

It was one of the first tasks completed in the renovation of No.11 Downing Street, which the Camerons are making their home, as it's more spacious than No.10.

With a degree in fine art, Samantha has an eye for detail and is likely to have followed her natural taste for understated, minimalist rooms, the strongest trend in rooms for VIBs - Very Important Babies.

"The look for today is one of timeless simplicity," says Lucinda Croft, owner of Dragons of Walton Street, the company which created nurseries for Princes William and Harry.

But even design fashionistas aren't hard-hearted enough to deny a new arrival those special touches.

"They're personalising with unique details to ensure the room is totally individual and special to their baby," says Croft.

"We recently created fluffy 3D clouds for the walls of one room, and gingerbread men for another," "We've noticed mothers tend to indulge themselves a little more with the decor of a daughter's nursery than with a son's.

"It seems mothers feel freer with a girl to create a fantasy room that perhaps they dreamt of when they were little."

Orders of this luxurious Georgian dolls' house from Knightsbridge children's emporium Dragons of Walton Street are literally going through the roof with parents tasking the store's interior designers with providing that unique finish.

Complete with electricity, bespoke furnishings and sumptuous fabrics, it's no wonder this fairytale mansion is fast becoming a best-seller.

Dragons MD Lucinda Croft said the orders were coming in thick and fast.

"A dolls' house sums up the magic and innocence of childhood," said the mum of two. "It encourages children to use their imagination and allows parents to get carried away in the nostalgia."

But the stakes are being raised with increasing numbers of customers asking for each house to be tailor-made.

Lucinda adds: "We have designed bedrooms and nurseries for a whole host of celebrities and international royalty, including Princes William and Harry. It is the attention to detail that clients love, for example, one child loved animals, so we made a conservatory of animals for her including real hay for the ‘pretend' rabbit. Another little girl loved cheese, so we sourced beautiful miniature cheese for her kitchen. I could go on but I am busy planning a stable and a mini shop too!

"Our order book is growing by the week and we are delighted with its success."

Dragons of Walton Street produces the finest hand-painted furniture in the world, with stores in London and Moscow and a further outlet planned to open in Dubai at the end of the year.

Dragons Chats with Disney about Winnie the Pooh

Last week we were so very excited about meeting Andy Grey, who is the head Winnie the Pooh artist for Disney. He has been working on Winnie the Pooh for 13 years!!!

Andy came to meet one of our senior artist's, Terry Skinner to discuss how to draw him so he is true to Shepherd's original designs. Did you know Shepherd was asked to colour Disney's Winnie the Pooh by his publishers when he was 90 years old, which is why the palette is so simple.

At Dragons of Walton Street we are hoping to have Winnie the Pooh back in our portfolio by the summer, so will keep you posted!!! We used to have the license about 10 years ago before Disney bought the rights to Winnie the Pooh. We are hoping to welcome him back into the Dragons of Walton Street family along with our other resident hereos Paddington Bear, Peter Rabbit and friends and of course the Flower Fairies.

Recently we have had some of our original customers from 30 years ago coming into the showroom and telling us they are handing down their children's furniture to their children's children to use!
