The Dragons Story As I grew up with my two brothers and my younger sister, I remember so clearly our late mother, Rosie Fisher searching for very special pieces of furniture for our rooms – many of them antiques. Finding a dearth of original pieces I remember her begging my father to let her open a little shop in the middle of Sussex. Naturally talented – with a wonderful ‘eye’ for a good and original design - she started hand painting tiny rush seated chairs with brightly painted children’s names and birthdates. She later added a table to go with the chair until together they began to sell faster than the antiques. Thus she launched what was to become her hugely successful range of hand painted children’s furniture. As sales increased, Dragons moved to Walton Street in Knightsbridge, London in 1979. Royal commissions followed. Celebrities, rock stars and yummy Mummies galore came to patronise. A purpose built artist’s studio and warehouse were designed in West Sussex to handle the increasing sales and manage the deliveries. Today – nearly thirty years on - Dragons of Walton Street continues to deliver a unique range of furniture to discerning clients in some thirty different countries worldwide. My mother loved children and never lost touch with what interested them. She said that our children’s furniture should always aim to stir a child’s imagination. We now have a wonderful fabric collection to complement our range of furniture and in 2006 we launched an exclusive nursery collection for Jane Churchill. When our clients see what we create for their children, they now very often ask us to design their rooms too!
